We look for familiar stories in different kinds of entertainment. We are used to getting trapped in set types of emotions while being entertained. Our mind runs like a non-stop player, continuously screening and sounding both important and meaningless thoughts all the time. What really is entertainment? [watch video...]

This work is about spatial transformation. The audience will experiences ambiguities of dimensions as we collapse what is 2D and 3D within a still frame via a still shot. Our work re-invents the space of the new Creative Media Centre where our School is. We turned depth of space into graphic composition and patterning of movement.

"What are we actually looking at?”
People are used to defining what they see.
Undo your assumptions when discovering new things.
New ideas found, overthrow old ideas. It is a recurring cycle.

Watching from the top, a large crowd of people looks somewhat non-human,
just like insects moving slowly as a group.
To some extent, strangers are in similar states.
When getting closer, features specific to certain person gradually stand out,
We begin to tell one perseon from the other. At this moment, if I keep going on,
I may eventually merge myself into the crowd. [watch video...]

The bottom video is for connecting the stop motions that capture the fragmented parts of our life.

Meanwhile, the two layers continuously fight against each other, just like "life" always combats with "time". [watch video...]

In this work, I ask, "Can images be clearly distinguished as still versus moving?" Can moving images moving staying still be considered still photos? Can still photos of different angles edited together with sounds be considered moving images? Still images and moving images aren't so different, perhaps? [watch video...]

What will we be when we are dead? I try to use my own way to answer this question. This video is made by Nokia 6500 in 128X96 pixels. In this video, I imagine a dead body being burned after the funeral, and it ends with my eyes. I close my eyes to miss someone; when my eyes open, I press stop. it records the memory of missing someone in the past. [watch video...]

In my work, I want to mark the contrast between the fence, people who pass by and the vehicles in full motion. What we are looking at is the fence, but it seems the momentary chance elements of people and vehicles constantly fight for our attention, pushing the fence to the backdrop on and off. In Hong Kong, efficiency is everything, even when it comes to eating: do it fast. Why don’t we slow down a bit? [watch video...]

This work creates a sense of illusion as it complicates the audience’s perception of what actually they are looking at. I want to arouse their curiosity to keep watching. Audiences can interpret the vision the way they want.

In Tweehonderdvijftig, I want to do an experiment: if I lay down the basic time and space, will the characters, objects, images and sounds develop an automatic relation among themselves? What narratives could be generated out of minimum critieria? Along the way, I found the corner and one side of a room, and their power to generate a special space. [watch video...]

The synchronization of sound and moving images always gives us a hint of what things are actually happening, but these two elements are not in sync in this work. By breaking the link between images and sound, time becomes ambiguous.

My work reflects on social problems in Hong Kong. In a way, it is also about people in my generation: it is difficult to find our place in society even if we work hard. I turned that feeling and state of mind into a allegorical scene in this video.
Think of the tree you see to be a house, a room, a place to rest, .... [watch video...]

Time. The exploration of time as a layered experience rather than duration. This work could be infinite, eventually the layers will swap, and day becomes night and night becomes day. The title of the work is based on the “in-between” of the two periods. The sound serves to give a sense of rhythm. [watch video...]

"3/10" is purely based on feelings and senses. I walked around in Shek Kip Mei Park (Hong Kong) blindfolded with a sound recording device. I recorded moving images that have a connection with my feelings and words. The text and the visuals travel through time and space.

Hopscotch is my exploration of the relation between narrative and narrativity. I plan the start-up situation and let the work grow by itself. There is no plot or script but only an event that I have to solve and deal with. This video lies between a video work and a documentary of my escape. [watch video...]

Synchronicity in Shek Kip Mei is a 'time image' that seeks to activate conscious experience of time and intensifies the viewers' attentiveness. While watching, we may easily forget how long we have been doing so. Every person, every path and every line is an element carrying multiple possibilities to interact with others, or else they reveal obvious contrasts to those who look intensely. [watch video...]

Being an art student is not an easy task. It needs courage and insistence on many levels. What I have done may not be understood, but I will insist until I tear up.

The concept of the work is a re-definition of a ‘scene’ and the experimentation with multiplicity of time and space. At the start, there were four different locations, from where a character began walking. Each of the four journeys had its own path but finally converged at the same location. Audiences have their decision to choose which of the four windows they like to focus on. Each window has its own independent narrative and their own closure. [watch video...]

Similar setting and plot, sSimilar affect and effects, similar handsome and pretty faces of the characters. What more is similar? Not only Hong Kong. This is a worldwide phenomenon. As we talk about global village, our movie industry is very much part of the game of globalization. Scriptwriters and directors have strict norms they follow, defend, and repeat. The 凹凸 on screen

Revealing and discovering details on a human body is the main focus of this work. Images and sound are equally important. In this work, revealing details is the basic function of the images. Different textures of sound creates sound shots in the video. The ‘soundscape’ has its own path while the work is growing. [watch video...]

The work is done by re-shooting a screen on which the B&W clip of the famous shower scene in Psycho Is playing. Sound and image create the feeling of fear and excitement. The main idea is to de-familiarize the film in order to give audience a different experience while watching this old movie. The new video has its own texture, frame rate, cut, color and sound after experimenting process.

Our city is like a big living machine. People and cars are like the blood flowing and the gears spinning that runs the machine. Those things make the city living and running under the rule so that there will not be disorder. The rule I found when I took the video is the “Roads”. [watch video...]

In this work, I reflects on how human beings treat sex and marriage in life. Do you believe marriage is a life-long warranty? Will you treat your wife as your life-long sex partner? When other people do you wrong, how do you rise up from your misery? Perhaps the only way is that you let it go and try to forget the past as no one can really help. [watch video...]

The Backyard has a composition, framing and aesthetic like a photograph. This is the product, by mixing the technique, vision and style of photography and moving image. To focus and be exhausting

3 days 2 nights is a video work that shows different levels of consciousness.
The video is based on a genuien feeling ofbeing awake and sleeping, sleeping while being awake andbeing awake while sleeping.
The soundtrack from field recordings gives a feeling of disconnectedness and yet intimacy to the subject. Both moving images and sound travel through different levels of consciousness. [watch video...]

By imitating a still photo and recording with camera, the power of stillness and motion join to form a new experience for looking at an image. People’s subtle changes are the fundamental element for this ‘third media’ functions.
Spread across the screen, the subjects in the different windows invite the audience to freely wander from one to the next as they feel interested. Their shift of attention generates for each person a unique narrative journey. [watch video...]

Asking a question about STILL photographs and MOVING images...
In this video, I divide the frame into four parts, each containing an image shot at different moments.
These images seem still.

Invade, dissolve, and then assimilated. There is a contrast between solid ice cube and the sound of flowing water. The red colors represent an intruder to the white ice cube. The shape of the melting ice cube is worth a closer look than we normally assume. Constant changes in depth of field and camera position are affecting the shape of the ice cube because of the randomly dropping position. watch video...]

This work is a story about three little pigs leaving their mother and starting their own life.
